The plain look actually adds a bit of ferocity if you ask me. The angular plating would work great in meleeing Grunts, and in his off hours John could be a running back!

I wonder what would chibi marines look like.....o.O.. isn't strange how halo doesn't really acknowledge the hard work of normal marines as they took on most of the casualties..poor liitle marines

The books went a lot farther in depth, and you do get to see that they aren't really useless. After all, they are using the exact same weapons Master Chief uses, they just aren't as durable.

ODST sorta shows that a bit... But then they have always said that the ODSTs are the best of the best normal humans, even if they are just Marines in a fancy helmet, and SUPPOSED to be environmentaly sealed armor ( The character in Halo 3 ODST had open finger gloves, and obviously non sealed helmets). Though no doubt some Marines are just as good, they just didn't join up to the ODST's for whatever reason.

Granted, in my play throughs of the Halo games... Marines haven't really been "Useless". I've had quite a few survive and follow me into battle. They just don't fire their weapons nearly as much as I do.

ya know,I didn't say they were useless,but only in the books they have a large role, however marines in the games are like the underlings.... hahahha ya ....pity...

Aaah, Good old MK-V, my personal favorite in style, no matter the advantages of the MK-VI.

It is kinda hard to find good pics of the Mjolnir MK-V in most of places, only fan-arts tend to be detailed enough and this is one of the most well detailed, specially the shape of the helmet (I never understood why in some other versions they make the MK-V helmet so simple looking instead of making the filter-like pieces around the mouth area like in this picture).
